We love to see the work you have been producing at home. If possible, please ask your parents if they could send copies of some of your best work to us either by e-mail or by Twitter. Thank you to all of the children who have sent in work to us so far. Here are some of the pointers and highlights from 'The Dragon' whole school write.

English
Spelling Frame - Complete a quiz on your new spellings this week and play the games for between 10 to 30 minutes. Take a break if you need to. Focus on the new rule. What do all the words have in common?
We would like you to write a paragraph which includes 4 of the spellings you have today - musician, magician, mathematician and invention. Aim for a minimum of 100 words. It can be a little bit crazy but it has to make sense and all of your spellings have to be correctly spelt. You will need to think about it carefully before you start. How could you add a question mark or inverted commas to make it more interesting?

Today we will be looking at improving our sentences. Again this is a skill that you could use in your writing to help keep the interest of the reader. Try saying each sentence aloud. (The answers are on the second page, but don't look until you've finished!).
A fronted adverbial is a phrase that can be used at the start of a sentence to help describe what follows. The sentence could be like this at the start.
The lion fell asleep later that day.
This needs to be changed. Using a fronted adverbial it would now look like this. Can you see how we have used the same words, but changed the order and added a comma so the sentence sounds natural?
Later that day, the lion fell asleep.
Here is the sheet for your to work on today.

Your whole school write from last Friday needed lots of description in order to really paint pictures in the mind of the reader. This video from Oak Academy focuses on the use of words and how you can use vocabulary to make your writing come alive. The video is from part of a poetry unit, although you can also use these skills across all of your writing.
Focus particularly on the video from minute 7 which will give you lots of ideas which could help with descriptive words and phrases.
