We have had an excellent start to our sporting calender this year and have many events to take part in throughout the year. We are aiming to build upon a very enjoyable and successful year and will be entering multiple teams into some events.
Year 5/6 Football
This was our first of many tournaments this year, held at Eyes Meadow, Duffield, a group of 9 children took part and performed to a very high standard against some good competition. Out of 14 teams competing to go through to the area finals we made it through the first group stage only losing once and conceding only one goal, winning 1 and drawing 2, finishing second in our group. We then proceeded to the 8th - 5th place play-offs where we continued to play great football winning both games, with the final game being won by a last second goal. We are very pleased with all of the boys who took part in this event, with each one of them showing great maturity at all times and being great ambassadors for themselves and the school.
Y5/6 Sports Hall Athletics
A huge well done to the Riddings team. They faced tough competition eventually coming 5th with very few points between them and 3rd. All of the children represented the school and themselves fantastically showing great sportsmanship, determination and respect. I am really proud of each of them and feel that with each passing competition they will improve.
Y3/4 Sports Hall Athletics
Firstly, thank you to all of the parents who helped with transport and came along to show their support. It is greatly appreciated.
What a night! After performing strongly in the field events of long jump, speed bounce and the chest throw, we were in a competitive position leading into the track events. Although the competition seemed close at the start of each race we steadily edged out a lead in each race. An unfortunate baton drop cost the girls 4 wins out of 4 with the boys having to fight back to a dead heat for 1st place to win all of their races.
The determination of this group was incredible with each child doing their part to help the team to victory. Riddings were Amber Valley champions by the end of the racing events , leading by 90 points. I am extremely proud of the athletes. They were a clear example of Riddings 'PRIDE' and I have no doubt there is more sporting success to come in the future. Well done!
Y5/6 Tag Rugby
A big thank you to all of the parents that came to support this event, on what was the coldest night we have ever had to compete in. Both teams worked really hard showing determination and respect throughout the competition. Riddings A played well enough to finish in the top 3 of their group against some tough competition including last years overall champions. Riddings B also had a tough group competing against some very talented schools.
We were very proud of all of the children and hope the Year 5's use the experience as an opportunity to build on ready for next year.
Basketball is an event that some of the children have been looking forward to for a long time, with the Year 5s being area champions last year. Their ability and skill showed again and both teams had to work very hard within their first groupings. Riddings A finished 3rd overall and through to the area finals, which will be held in January. All of the children worked hard and represented themselves and the school brilliantly with their PRIDE values evident throughout the event.
Thank you so much to all of the parents who helped transport and stayed to watch tonight. Your support and help makes a big difference to both the children and the myself.
After a bit of a chaotic start, due to an accident on the A38, the children split into their three teams and started the competition. All three teams had tough first matches. As each match went on and the children got used to the rules they became more confident and performances became much faster. Miss Pilling and I were incredibly proud of all of the children who took part.
Tonight was only the second competition this year for year 4 and the teams had a strong desire to not only do well, but to win. This was done by Riddings A who showed true excellence in every match winning each one by a good margin. Once again Riddings Year 4's are area champions. Well Done!
This year we have carried on from where we left with over 100 children attending after school sports classes including athletics, football and dance.
We would like to be able to open up clubs to larger numbers. However, for this to happen we would need support for myself and other members of staff.
If you would like to help with a club, please don't hesitate to speak to me.Mr Askew
