Lesson 5: Calculate perimeter (worksheet and answers)
In today's lesson you are going to need to apply everything you have learnt so far to calculate perimeter of different shapes. Remember to calculate carefully! If you fancy a challenge, why not try these perimeter problems?

LC: Can I analyse the features of a newspaper report?
In the learning this week, you will be looking at writing your own newspaper report based on The Highland Falcon Thief. Alternatively, if you are struggling to recall the main events in this story, there is a linked lesson on Oak Academy about newspaper report writing based on a clip from Spiderman, the related lessons will be linked each day.
Today you are going to look at the main features of a newspaper report.

LC: Can I explain what water resistance is and how fish are adapted for swimming more quickly?
In this lesson, you will work through what water resistance is and how different animals and boats are adapted to allow them to be more streamlined. You will also create your own specially adapted boat, using junk modelling and recycling, that is able to sail smoothly through water.

In today's lesson, you will need to calculate carefully to measure the area of rectangles. Remember to find the area of a rectangle, you must multiply the length of one side by the other. Lost in Space animation using Scratch
Over today and tomorrow you will work on Scratch to practise your coding skills. Today's lesson focuses on creating an animation. Follow the step by step guide on the first link to create your own space animation using Scratch. If you prefer to create a different themed animation following the same steps but change the sprites and background!

If you found the area of rectangles lesson tricky yesterday, go back for extra practise as you will need to be confident with that before moving on. Today you will extend your knowledge of finding the area of rectangles to move on to the area of compound shapes. An additional worksheet for extra practise can be found here with the answers. This is the final lesson in the area and perimeter unit. If you are still finding some difficult, go back to the previous home learning and watch the videos again and have another go at the worksheet. Alternatively, view a different video or complete this worksheet with the answers.
