 Today you will be interpreting pictograms using the 2s, 5s and 10s. Please watch the taught video on White Rose Hub 'interpret pictograms' and complete the worksheet.

The Stone Trolls - Lesson 6

Activity:

Today's lesson is all about adjectives. If you need a reminder, click the picture underneath to watch the BBC Bitesize video before you start.

In your work booklet, you have a pictures of the scenery in Iceland and a table. Look at the pictures and in the first half of your table list all the things (nouns) you can spot e.g. rocks, clouds. Then, in the second half of the table you must describes the nouns with different adjectives.

Challenge 1: You could use an online thesaurus to think of synonyms for your adjectives e.g. big, gigantic, colossal. Then, fill in the gaps in the sentences with the adjectives. Make sure your adjective makes sense in the sentence.

Challenge 2: Use two adjectives with a comma in between to describe the Icelandic setting. These are expanded noun phrases.

Challenge 3: Use the expanded noun phrases you have just created in a paragraph to describe the setting. Don't forget a capital letter at the start of your sentence, a full stop at the end of your sentence and a comma in between your two adjectives.

Activity:

Can you get the gist of Chapter 2? Order the events in chronological order from 1 - 10. Remember, chronological order means it is in time order. You may need to listen to or re-read the chapter again!

Today you will be drawing bar charts. Please watch the taught video on White Rose Hub 'draw bar charts'. There is not a worksheet for today but you can complete the activities in the video on some paper or your orange book.

The Stone Trolls - Lesson 7

Activity:

In today's lesson, you will be using prepositions. If you need a reminder about what these are, click on the picture below to watch a BBC Bitesize video about prepositions. 

Imagine you are Skess and Landra, sitting, looking and listening. What can you see above or below you? You can use the images of Iceland in your booklet from the previous lesson to help you. Write sentences to describe what you can see and hear using the prepositions 'above' and 'below' at the start of the sentences. Remember to use a comma after the preposition and a full stop at the end of your sentence.

Challenge: can you use the trickier prepositions in your sentences?

Activity:

At the end of the week, you are going to innovate The Stone Trolls story and create your own version of it. The story follows a plot plan and today you must create your own ideas to change the story and create your own. You can plan your story in the table provided and their are ideas on the PDF if you are finding it tricky to change.

Activity:

Can you repair the possible vocabulary breakdowns from Chapter 4? You may use a dictionary or the internet to help you. We have then shown you how it is used in a sentence in the book - can you put the vocab in your own sentence?

The Iron Man - Lesson 8

Activity:

 Highlight the VIP words and phrases in the passage that tells you what the space-bat-angel-dragon looks likes. Then, using your VIP words and phrases, can you visualise what the space-bat-angel-dragon looks like? Draw it in the box on your worksheet.

This is the end of our 'Statistics' unit - hooray! Please complete the post-assessment and send this back (scanned or a picture) to info@riddings-jun.derbyshire.sch.uk so that we can then offer feedback on your child's learning. Try to complete this independently just as we would in school. Good luck!

The Stone Trolls - Lesson 10

Activity:

It's time to edit your writing. Re-read through your story - does it make sense? Have you punctuated it correctly with capital letters and full stops? Could you up-level your work by adding powerful verbs, interesting adjectives or effective adverbs? Use the checklist on the lesson PDF to make sure you have included everything. Remember that this is your story draft, so if you need to change bits to make it better, that is okay!

Once you are happy with your work, you can publish your work! Re-write the finished draft of your story in your neatest handwriting. You can do this in your book or on paper. You could include illustrations in your work or even publish it in a booklet using the instructions on the PDF or video below. Remember to show PRIDE in your writing and we can't wait to see the final product.

The Iron Man - Lesson 10

Activity:

The Iron Man has just saved the world from the space-bat-angel-dragon! Can you write a news article explaining the events that happened? There are two versions of the newspaper article template in your booklet - a guided version with subheadings and an empty template - so you can choose which one you prefer. Make sure your article is engaging and interesting for the reader.
